The National Association of Spirits Companies (ANEBE) asked the Government to speed up the adoption of procedures for implementing the agreement between the European Union and Mercosur.
ANEBE was representing Portugal on missions in Brazil, with spiritsEUROPE and with a delegation from the European Commission.
“ANEBE calls on the Government and the Portuguese parliament to be quick to adopt the procedures necessary to implement the agreement, in order to ensure that it can come into operation as quickly as possible and generate concrete benefits for companies and the national economy”, said, quoted in a statement, the association’s secretary general, João Vargas.
The trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia) was signed in December 2024, after a negotiation that lasted 25 years, but still needs final validation.
This agreement proposes that, in general, customs barriers are “progressively eliminated”.
In the missions carried out in Brazil, ANEBE participated in several meetings dedicated to accelerating this agreement, in addition to visiting retailers and potential customers.
Founded in 2000, ANEBE claims to represent the main companies in the sector and is a member of spiritsEUROPE – the European federation of the spirits industry.
