The unemployment rate in Spain increased slightly in the third quarter, reaching 10.45% of the workforce, compared to 10.29% at the end of June, according to official data released this Friday, 24th.
According to the Spanish National Statistics Institute (INE), a total of 2.6 million people were registered as unemployed on September 30 in Spain, the fourth largest economy in the Euro Zone.
In a statement, the Spanish public body indicated that 60,100 more people were unemployed, compared to the previous quarter.
INE reported that in the second quarter, the unemployment rate fell to 10.29%, the lowest level since the 2008 financial crisis.
The unemployment rate in Spain, which had soared during the Covid-19 pandemic, has decreased in recent years thanks to tourism, according to INE.
On the other hand, last year, the number of people employed increased by 2.58%, to 22.4 million, according to INE, in a context of economic growth, driven by increased immigration and consumption.
According to the Bank of Spain, the unemployment rate is expected to reach 10.5% of the workforce by the end of 2025.
The Spanish unemployment rate continues to be the highest in the European Union and OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) countries.
