Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered this Monday, October 28, the Army to carry out “immediate and powerful attacks in the Gaza Strip”, after a meeting with security officials, according to a government statement.
The decision was taken shortly after IDF troops were attacked in the south of the Gaza Strip, after Israel accused the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas of returning remains that, after forensic examinations, were identified as belonging to a hostage that had already been recovered in November 2023.
Hamas has since accused Israel of violating the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and announced that it will postpone the delivery of the body of a hostage, under the agreement in force since October 10.
The delivery of the body was scheduled for this Tuesday afternoon, through the Red Cross, but a few hours later Israel accused the Palestinian group of targeting its troops in Rafah, in the south of the Gaza Strip, and said that the alleged attack was responded to.
