THIS is the moment a windsurfer diced with death after a huge great white shark pulled his board underwater and took a massive bite out of it.
Footage shows how the man was savagely dragged beneath the waves as the water erupted in frenzied splashes.
Andy McDonald has miraculously survived the horrifying encounter, which took place at Prevelly Beach, near Margaret River in the Southwest of Western Australia.
The 65-year-old set out with several other people on Monday evening and at about 5:45pm Andy felt the shark make his terrifying move.
He said he felt the shark ram into his board and the footage shows how he was brutally sucked into the water.
The shark’s move came as a surprise- moments before there was no sign of any movement or a fin.
BEACH TERROR
Shark mauls lifeguard as terrified beachgoers see ‘big red stain’ in the water
He said: “I was punching it and kicking it, and I think it was trying to do the same back to me because it was tangled up in my leg rope,
“Then it broke free. I just jumped up onto my sail, which is inflatable, just to get out of the water, get my limbs out of the water and pray that it didn’t come back.”
Onlookers enjoying their time on the beach were gobsmacked as they witnessed Andy’s frantic splashing in the water as the beast became tangled in the boards leg rope.
“At that point I thought, ‘This is it. This is my time up’. I realised I was tangled up with a big shark and he was definitely going to be the boss in that situation,” he told WA Today.
Andy was left clinging onto his sail as he managed to wrestle back control of his board.
The windsurfer was left with no choice but to make the 15 minute paddle back to shore after the horrifying ordeal.
He escaped with only a huge chunk being bitten out of his board; he joked saying he was “lucky” the shark didn’t manage to get hold of something “tastier” and come back for more.
The size of the shark bite appears to span the length of Andy’s back as he carried it along the beach.
As an avid windsurfer Andy has “always felt very safe” in the water only crossing path with the occasional shark over the years.
The brave Aussie moved to southwest WA from Melbourne in 2003 and while the attack has rattled him he doesn’t believe it will keep him out of the water for long.
After Andy fought off the great white the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development circulated an alert.
The alert claimed it had tracked the beast to approximately 50 metres offshore.
“At approximately 5.45pm, a reported white shark bit a foil board, causing the rider to fall into the water. The rider was not injured,”
“The rider was located between Boat Ramp Surfing Spot and Bombie Surfing Spot at the time of the interaction,” the statement read.
Water users have been issued with a stark warning, advising them to take additional caution in the Prevelly area.
This comes after A lifeguard was savagely mauled by a shark at a popular beach in Hawaii.
Chance Swanson was spotted unconscious in the water by terrified beachgoers who said he was surrounded by a pool of blood.
Chance was hauled out of the water and found to have severe bite wounds on his left leg.
