“A government in common with Macron’s is unimaginable,” Faure told the press upon leaving Matignon (the headquarters of the Government) and has once again reiterated his defense of taking the replacement of a leftist cohabitation government with the French president, Emmanuel Macron, the only one who has the power to appoint the prime minister, the agency reports Efe.
One of the reasons for rejecting a coalition government with the Macronists is that, he clarified, they have no “guarantees” that the suspension of the pension reform will be carried out. This possibility has only been mentioned by the Minister of Education, Elisabeth Bornewho was prime minister when that law was approved in 2023 without a parliamentary majority and without a vote, and which is opposed by all groups on the left.

“This story could be a complete hoax,” said Faure, who despite everything has shown himself willing to “find a way out of this crisis”. The outgoing prime minister, who has until tonight to present the results of his negotiations to Macron, assured this morning in a surprise statement that “appreciates a will” in the political groups to reach an agreement that avoids electoral advancement.
