The number of couples with both members unemployed fell 3.6% in September year-on-year and 2.7% compared to August, to 4,756, according to data released today by the IEFP.

“Of the total number of unemployed people married or in a civil union, 9,512 (8.1%) also have a record that their spouse is also registered as unemployed with the employment service, totaling 4,756 unemployed couples, in September 2025, which represents -3.6%, when compared to the same period of the previous year”, points out the report from the Institute of Employment and Professional Training (IEFP).

In the chain comparison, the number of couples in which both spouses are unemployed fell by 2.7%.

For several years now, couples in this situation of double unemployment have been entitled to a 10% increase in the value of the unemployment benefit benefit, when they have dependent dependents.

The IEFP also announced that the number of unemployed people registered in employment centers fell 2.6% in September year-on-year, but rose 0.3% compared to August, increasing in a chain for the second consecutive month.
