Portuguese coach Vítor Pereira was fired from Wolverhampton, one day after another defeat in the English Football League, a competition in which the Wolves have not yet won this season. The dismissal took place this Sunday, November 2nd.
“Wolverhampton Wanderers announces the resignation of coach Vítor Pereira, after a winless start to the 2025/26 season. (…) All eight members of Pereira’s technical team leave the club”, the English club announced today, adding that James Collins and Richard Walker, from the under-21s and juniors, are provisionally taking over training.
Vítor Pereira, 57 years old, who had arrived at the English club in December last year and with whom he had recently renewed, in September, until 2028, could not resist the bad results, after another defeat on Saturday, against Fulham (3-0).
This season, the team, which includes the Portuguese Toti Gomes, Rodrigo Gomes and José Sáis the only one among the 20 ‘Premier’ teams that has not recorded any victory in 10 rounds. There were also two draws and eight defeats.
The Wolves remain in last place in the championship, eight points behind Burnley (17th), the first team above the relegation zone, and were also eliminated from the League Cup, in the round of 16in a game in which they even tried to ‘resist’ Chelsea (4-3).
The Portuguese coach’s ‘adventure’ in England ends now, one day after Vítor Pereira acknowledged that he was not satisfied with the state of things, much less with the performance against Fulham. “We played, probably, one of the worst games. Even 11 against 11 [o Wolverhampton ficou reduzido a 10 aos 36 minutos]from the first minute, the energy to move, the offensive dynamics and the energy to press, were not there”, he said.
In the English League, with the departure of Vítor Pereira, there are now three Portuguese coaches: Marco Silva at Fulham, Ruben Amorim at Manchester United and Nuno ESírito Santo at West Ham. Vítor Pereira, who was two-time champion at FC Porto, champion in China and Greece, also coached Santa Clara, Al-Ahli, Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe, Munich 1860, Shanghai SIPG, Corinthians, Flamengo, Al-Shabab, among others.
