Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner guaranteed this Sunday, November 2, that he will return to the top of the world rankings, after beating Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final of the Masters 1,000 in Paris.
After the still world number one, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, lost in his debut, in the second round, Sinner knew that, if he won for the first time in Paris, he would return to the top of the world hierarchy, in his last tournament before the ATP Finals, which will be played from November 9th to 16th, in Turin, Italy.
The transalpine he needed one hour and 53 minutes to beat Felix Auger-Aliassime, 10th in the world, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-4), taking the lead in the direct confrontation with the Canadian, with the third victory in five meetings.
In a year in which he was suspended for three months due to a positive anti-doping test, Sinner won his fifth trophy, three of which in just over a monthafter having already won in October in Beijing and Vienna, now having a total of 23 trophies in his career.
Reaching the final in Paris was also important for Felix Auger-Aliassime, who, one week before the ATP Finals, placed himself in eighth place in the race to Turin, the last one to access the end-of-season tournament, overtaking the Italian Lorenzo Musetti.
