Livre proposed this Monday, January 27th, a reduction in VAT from 23% to 21% and an increase in the national minimum wage to 1,250 euros over the next four years, insisting on a four-day working week.
“What the Government calls budgetary knights, we call helping people. If the PS and, eventually, Chega give up, through their negotiations, in general, on helping people directly, Livre will not give up”defended spokesperson Rui Tavares, at a press conference at the Assembly of the Republic.
On the day that parliament begins discussing the State Budget proposal for 2026 in general, which already has guaranteed approval with the abstention of the PS, Livre has already advanced some of the proposals for changes to the document that it intends to deliver in the specialty phase.
The party led by Rui Tavares and Isabel Mendes Lopes proposes 12 ideas for 12 months and 52 measures, one for each week of next year, which includes reducing VAT from 23% to 21% in four years, half a percentage point in 2026.
“What we want is for VAT, the normal rate, which is currently 23% in Portugal, to fall to 21% but in four years, approximately with a decrease of 0.5% per year. This measure has an impact of less than 500 million euros per year”detailed deputy Patrícia Gonçalves.
