Three municipalities in the districts of Guarda and Coimbra are this Saturday, the 18th, at maximum risk of fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

IPMA has placed under this notice the municipalities of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, in the district of Guarda, Oliveira do Hospital and Pampilhosa da Serra, in the district of Coimbra.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere, around a hundred municipalities in the northern and central interior and Algarve are at very high risk of rural fires.

The fire danger determined by IPMA has five levels, ranging from low to maximum. Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The IPMA predicts for this Saturday, the 18th, slightly cloudy or clear skies, gradually becoming very cloudy from mid-morning, from north to south, with the possibility of light and scattered rain on the North and Center coast from late afternoonmost likely in Minho and Douro Litoral.

The wind will blow weak to moderate, predominantly from the south, sometimes strong (up to 40 km/h) in the Algarve mountains until the end of the morning, and in the northern highlands at the end of the day.

A small increase in temperature is expected on the North and Central coast, especially the maximum temperature.

Maximum temperatures will range between 21 degrees Celsius in Guarda and 30 in Santarém, Setúbal, Évora.
