The Provincial Court of Madrid on Tuesday dismissed the appeal by UEFA, LaLiga and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) against the Super League and confirmed that the European body abused its dominant position by trying to prevent the creation of alternative competitions. The ruling opens the door for the promoting clubs, mainly Real Madrid, to claim financial compensation for the damages and, regarding this, the white entity made a statement.
“Real Madrid CF celebrates that the Provincial Court of Madrid has dismissed the appeals filed by UEFA, the RFEF and LALIGA, confirming that UEFA, in the matter of the Super League, seriously infringed the free competition rules of the European Union in line with the ruling of the CJEU with abuse of its dominant position,” Real Madrid published on its website.
On the other hand, Real Madrid assures that it began dialogues with UEFA to seek an understanding that, in the end, did not come to fruition.
“Likewise, Real Madrid reports that throughout 2025 it has held numerous conversations with UEFA to seek solutions, without reaching any commitment regarding more transparent governance, financial sustainability, protection of the health of footballers and improvements in the fan experience, including free and globally accessible broadcast models as was the case in the FIFA Club World Cup,” it points out.
“Consequently, the club announces that it will continue working for the good of global football and the fans, while at the same time it will ask UEFA for the substantial damages suffered,” the club concludes in its statement.
