The main leaders of the PP of the Valencian Community unanimously support Vicent Mompó as a consensus figure at the head of the party, replacing Carlos Mazónas sources from this political formation informed EFE this Saturday.
These same sources have assured that the regional leaders of the PP in Valencia have already conveyed their support to Mompó, president of the Valencia Provincial Council, to the national leadership of the party in Madrid.
The decision has been made after opening an internal debate on the complicated situation that the party is going through after the latest information about the management of the dana by Carlos Mazón as president of the Generalitat.
This Friday in Alicante the general secretary of the PPCV met, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, trustee of the party in the Valencian Cortes, and the three provincial presidents of the party, in turn presidents of the provincial councils, Vicent Mompó (Valencia), Marta Barrachina (Castellón) and Toni Pérez (Alicante), to discuss the steps that can be taken at this time, as sources have confirmed to EFE. popular.
From that meeting, a consensus name emerged, Vicent Mompó, with the support of the three provinces, in case there was any change regarding Mazón’s situation after the week in which he received boos at the State funeral for the 229 victims of the dana on the first anniversary of the tragedy and in which, the next day, Mazón said that in the coming days he will do “a somewhat deeper reflection” on what that day meant.
The situation is beginning to be complicated for the party, according to the PPCV sources consulted, not only at the provincial level, but also due to the concern among mayors and councilors, and the internal debate must exist for democratic health and responsibility, they point out.
At yesterday’s meeting in Alicante, there was talk about continuing to work on the reconstruction and seeking an “adequate” solution for the presidency of the PPCV, which now falls in the hands of Mazón, and for the Valencians, in case there were any changes regarding their situation.
This solution focuses on the president of the Valencia Provincial Council, Vicent Mompó, who has the unanimous support of the three provinces, and this has been made known to the national leadership of the party, without Mazón having announced any decision at the moment.
From Alicante, the provincial president of the PP, Toni Pérez, has stated in statements to EFE that Mazón continues to have the decision of what he wants to do in his hand and has recalled that this week he has an appearance scheduled for the remodeling of the Consell.
Pérez has declared, asked if he would see it appropriate for Mazón to take another step, that he has always believed that he has “all the capacity” to make the decisions he deems appropriate, and he has already announced an appearance this coming week, as he has reiterated.
It has been a complicated week for Mazón and “for everyone” and “we have been experiencing difficult moments for a long time”, since “the first stages of the flood”, said Pérez, who insists that what is important is the “strength and unity” of the PP and each moment is approached “based on reality”, not on hypotheses.
Pérez has framed this Friday’s meeting in Alicante in “the permanent conversations” that are held to analyze the different situations and the key in this process is “to maintain the unity of the party in the three provinces and in the PPCV.”
Yesterday, Friday, new statements were made known by former councilor Salomé Pradas, assuring that she informed Mazón of everything on the day of the dana, including sending the Es_Alert message to cell phones, and those of the PP spokesperson in Congress, Ester Muñoz, who left her possible decision to resign in the hands of Mazón after the boos at the funeral, stating that the decision to resign from a public position that citizens have voted for is personal and it is he who must decide his future. political.
And this Monday, journalist Maribel Vilaplana, who had lunch with Mazón on October 29, 2024, is summoned to testify as a witness in the Catarroja court investigating the case of the dana, whom the judge has asked to provide the entry and exit ticket to the parking lot to which the president accompanied her after that meal.
The journalist’s statement will begin a week in which, as Mazón announced on September 12, a new remodeling of his Consell will be carried out on Wednesday after the departure of the current second vice president and counselor for Recovery after the damage, Francisco José Gan Pampols.
