Sigfrido Ranucci, a well-known Italian journalist, was the target of a bomb attack, which caused no casualties, on Thursday night, Italy’s public television station RAI said.
Ranucci is the presenter of the RAI investigative program Report.
RAI said that the Report program “made history” in the field of investigative journalism and added that Sigfrido Ranucci and the program’s team are “once again” at the forefront with in-depth investigations and coverage of political, economic and Italian society-related topics.
According to RAI, the police are investigating the attack.
According to public television, the daughter’s car and the facade of the journalist’s house were also damaged by the explosion, 20 kilometers south of Rome.
According to the Report program portal, the force of the explosion “could have killed anyone passing by at that time.”
The attack provoked a series of condemnations from several Italian political leaders.
The head of the Government, Giorgia Meloni, expressed “total solidarity” with the journalist and “firmly” condemned the act of intimidation.
In the 2025 press freedom index by the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Italy ranks 49th.
