Retail sales increased, in September, by 1.0% in the euro zone and 1.3% in the European Union (EU), compared to the same month in 2024, Eurostat reports this Thursday, 6th.
Compared to August, the volume of retail sales fell 0.1% both in the euro area and in the 27 Member States as a whole.
According to the EU statistical service, among the Member States for which data is available, the biggest year-on-year increases in retail trade were recorded in Cyprus (8.5%), Malta (6.6%) and Bulgaria (5.7%).
The four drops compared to September 2024, on the other hand, were observed in Italy (-2.3%), Romania (-2.1%), Belgium (-0.8%) and Austria (-0.1%).
In the chain comparison, the biggest declines in the indicator were observed in Lithuania (-1.1%), Latvia and Slovenia (-0.7% each) and in Italy (-0.6%).
The main increases were recorded in Luxembourg and Malta (1.7% each), Estonia (1.5%) and Slovakia (1.4%).
In Portugal, retail sales volume rose 4.8% quarter-on-quarter and 0.3% compared to September.
