All appointments to present a visa to look for work in Portugal from Thursday onwards will be cancelled, as these will be replaced by visas to look for qualified work, the Government announced this Wednesday, October 21st.
According to a note from the office of the Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, following these changes, Portuguese consular posts or visa application centers for external service providers (VFS Global/BLS International/TLScontact) will not be able to accept visa applications for job searches.
“Instead of the visa for looking for work, there will now be a visa for looking for qualified work”but visa applications to look for qualified work can only be submitted when “the new typology is subject to the necessary regulation, in line with the provisions of the new Foreigners Law”.
Law No. 61/2025, of October 22, 2025, which approved the Foreigners Law and includes these changes, was published this Wednesday in the Diário da República.
