The Pernambuco International Literary Festival (Fliporto) arrives in Portugal for the first time this October. The event, which celebrates 20 years of existence, takes place between the 22nd and 25th, at the Leça do Balio Monastery, in Matosinhos, district of Porto, and has the theme “The Book in Digital Times and Literature in the Portuguese Language”. The Portuguese edition of the festival, created in 2005 in Brazil, is held in partnership with Fundação Livraria Lello. The program includes book launches, debates, panels and sessions aimed at schools, bringing together writers, artists and thinkers from Portuguese-speaking countries.
According to Antônio Campos, president of the Fliporto Institute, in Brazil, and general coordinator of Fliporto Portugal, the initiative “is a historic opportunity to strengthen literary ties between Portugal and Brazil, and the vast Portuguese-speaking universe, uniting authors, readers and cultural institutions on both sides of the Atlantic, and creating bridges of cooperation and sharing of ideas”.
The opening, on the 22nd, will feature the presentation of the Guerra Junqueiro 2024 Literary Prize to writer Dulce Maria Cardoso, whose work will be presented by researcher Margarida Calafate Ribeiro.
