US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the announced mass layoffs due to the federal government shutdown will be “targeted at the Democrats”, as he considers them to be to blame for the situation.
“It will be Democrat-oriented, because we believe they started this, so it should be Democrat-oriented.”highlighted the Republican President, during a press conference at the White House.
Trump added: “There will be many (layoffs), and we will announce the numbers in the coming days, but there will be many, all thanks to the Democrats”.
The White House had already announced on Friday the start of a new round of layoffs targeting federal employees, as the president seeks to take advantage of the government shutdown to cut employees in several agencies, in an attempt to pressure Democrats to accept his fiscal demands in Senate votes.
