Australian authorities are investigating an Internet portal that published the cell phone numbers of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and other Australian politicians, the Government announced this Tuesday, October 14th.
The website, based in the United States, allows free access to data and claims to compile contacts, using artificial intelligence, from social networks and professional portals.
“This is a cause for concern and we are working to resolve the issue,” said Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, adding that the Government is aware of the incident and has notified the relevant authorities.
Australian opposition leader Sussan Ley, who claimed to have learned of the leak through the media, has already requested the immediate removal of her personal data from the portal.
It is not known how long the numbers have been available online.
Other politicians, such as New South Wales head of government Chris Minns, said they only learned of the leak recently and expressed concern about the exposure of personal information.
Australian authorities did not disclose the name of the North American portal, but said that the page accepts requests for data removal, although this will not happen immediately.
