A group of between 20 and 30 members of a neo-Nazi group allegedly beat an immigrant belonging to the Sikh community, originally from India, with kicks and headbutts, according to SIC Notícias.
The incident took place on Sunday, October 5, at a service station on the A1, and the victim, a 29-year-old man, was hospitalized in Santarém, where he was observed by health professionals this Thursday.
This group urged the immigrant, Racchhpa, to kiss a shirt they were wearing. Asked what was written on the piece of clothing, one of the group members replied: “It says 1143. It means you’re supposed to leave here. Go back to your country. You can’t stay here. This is my home.”
The moment Racchhpa began to be attacked was captured by the video surveillance camera installed at the location, which will now be used by authorities to identify the suspects.
“He came to me and headbutted me. He grabbed my shirt and I grabbed his. He started hitting me on the back, I fell. The rest – I’m not sure -, but there were 20 or 30 people hitting me”said Racchhpa, who has lived in Portugal for six years, to SIC News.
According to the channel, the group stopped at the service station when heading from Lisbon towards Porto.
In addition to the attacks, the immigrant was robbed.
The injuries suffered are considered minor.
