The Brazilian company Embraer and the Indian group Mahindra today signed a strategic cooperation agreement to introduce the C-390 Millennium military transport aircraft, from the South American manufacturer, in the Asian country.
The agreement included “the joint commercialization, industrialization and development of India as an operations center for the C-390 Millennium,” Embraer said in a statement.
According to the company, Embraer and Mahindra will work closely to identify opportunities for local manufacturing, assembly facilities, supply chain and maintenance activities.
“The long-term objective is to position India as a manufacturing and support center for the C-390 Millennium aircraft, meeting the needs of the country and the region”, reads the same note.
The C-390 Millennium is an aircraft capable of carrying out tactical troop and vehicle transport missions, humanitarian aid, disaster management and aeromedical evacuation.
The C-390 military transport aircraft has already been selected by the air forces of Brazil, Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Slovakia and Lithuania.
The executive president of Embraer Defense & Security, Bosco da Costa Junior, stated that the agreement with Mahindra is “a significant milestone” that aims to “deliver a more advanced and reliable joint military transport solution for the Indian Air Force”.
This agreement coincided with a visit to New Delhi by the Brazilian vice-president, Geraldo Alckmin.
As part of this visit, Embraer opened an office in New Delhi.
Brazil and India are founding members of the BRICS, a group of emerging economies led by China, and both were affected by the United States Government’s tariff policy.
