Portugal surpassed Spain and the United Kingdom in the digitalization of paymentsstanding out as the only European country with more than 50% availability of payments with SoftPOS. International e-commerce also presents significant numbers, with 45% of online purchases being made outside the country.

A report by Nuek, in collaboration with AFI, reveals that the Direct debit is the preferred form of subscription payment in Portugal, representing 44% of transactions of this type. In contrast, physical credit cards only have a 4% share.

Despite progress, the digitalization of the point of sale faces barriers, such as resistance to new technologies and the preference for traditional methods. THE report highlights that only 41% of the banked population in Europe has adopted mobile payment solutions, compared to 62% in Latin America.

Miguel Simões, director of Financial Services at Minsait in Portugal, cited in the statement, states that “international e-commerce has a relevant share, but the consumer experience continues to be limited by costs, security and payment options”.
