Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said today that he apologized to US President Donald Trump for a television advertisement against American tariffs, which led the Republican to impose an additional 10% tariff on Canada.
“I apologized to the President [dos EUA]. The President was offended by the commercial ad, and it’s not something I would have done, creating that commercial,” Mark Carney said at a press conference in the South Korean city of Gyeongju, which hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.
The Canadian leader stated that his country is willing to resume negotiations “when the Americans are ready”. The most recent conflict between the two neighboring countries occurred last week, when Donald Trump announced an additional 10% tariff on Canada in retaliation for a television advertisement promoted by the Ontario provincial government that used quotes from former American president Ronald Reagan to oppose the tariffs.
