The Chinese group Geely will become a shareholder in the Renault branch in Brazil, with a 26.4% stake, gaining access to the Curitiba industrial complex, the engineering center and the French brand’s dealer network.
The agreement, announced this Monday, November 3, in a joint statement by the two companies, represents a deepening of cooperation between the two groups and aims to accelerate Renault’s growth in Brazil and, by extension, throughout Latin America.
The alliance sees Renault use Geely’s GEA platform to expand its range of electric and low-emission vehicles.
As a minority shareholder, Geely will take advantage of the industrial resources of the Ayrton Senna factory, in the state of Paraná, as well as Renault’s commercial structure in Brazil, to accelerate its implementation in the country, the two groups say.
Renault currently holds around 5% of the Brazilian automobile market. In 2024, the Curitiba unit produced 188,000 vehicles – around half of its installed capacity –, with part of the production destined for neighboring countries, such as Argentina and Colombia.
The companies did not disclose the amount involved in the operation, which includes financial components and assets.
Both highlighted the common objective of strengthening their respective brands in the Brazilian market, responsible for more than 40% of vehicles registered in Latin America in the first half of this year.
The executive director of the Renault group, François Provost, classified the agreement as a “decisive advance” in the company’s international strategy, through “agile cooperation based on industrial excellence and technological leadership”.
