The enormous wooden dome that presides over the brothers’ event restaurant Rocahe But Moroccolocated in Vilablareix (Girona), has completely burned in a fire that broke out in the early hours of this Tuesday without any injuries.
According to the Generalitat Fire Department, ten ground crews have traveled to the scene of the incident, of which notification was received on the emergency telephone number at 4:33 a.m.
The wooden dome, a structure more than 20 meters in diameter and ten meters high, has completely burned and the work of the troops has focused on protecting the annex building, the 15th century Gothic farmhouse that gives its name to the restaurant. The fire was considered stabilized at 7:00 a.m. and the causes are currently being investigated.
One of the three Roca brothers, Josep, sommelier at Celler de Can Roca, the family restaurant recognized with three Michelin stars, has thanked the Fire Department and the Mossos d’Esquadra through social networks for the work carried out “with speed, efficiency and care.”
“Sadness, despair and resignation” were three adjectives with which he described the fire, accompanied by “relief” at not having suffered human misfortunes.
Josep Roca has sent a positive message after describing the fire: “Fire and smoke as the starting point of creation. “Recover, redirect, remake.”
The dome of Mas Marroch was a work of engineering under parameters of ecological architecture that was located in a space that hosted events and banquetsincluding the 2016 Michelin Star Awards Gala.
