A WOKE pastor has sparked fierce backlash after blessing four men into one marriage at a public wedding event.
Lena Müller, 33, a youth pastor with the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia (EKBO), said the union as a “marriage in the eyes of God”.
She presided over the ceremony during a “pop-up wedding festival” outside the Holy Cross Church in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
Müller, who describes herself as a “feminist & pastor,” said the relationship involved two Latvians, a Thai citizen, and another man she believed was Spanish.
The four reportedly spoke English with each other.
She told local outlet Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung: “You could see right away that there was so much love between them.
“Why should God have anything against there being four of them rather than two?”
Although same-sex marriage has been legal in Germany since 2017, polygamy remains prohibited and punishable under the German civil and criminal codes.
Müller acknowledged the ceremony could not be officially registered but insisted: “I am at any rate convinced that they really did marry in the eyes of God.”
In a now-deleted Instagram post, she wrote: “What an honour, that these four asked for a blessing with so much trust.”
Bishop Christian Stäblein defended the pastor, saying the event had not been a formal marriage and that “allegations of polygamy are baseless.”
The church later said it was “appalled” by the “massive hostility” Müller had faced online and was considering legal action against users who abused her.
Critics, however, condemned the move as proof that the Protestant church was abandoning its traditions.
One commentator on X claimed that Martin Luther “would have retracted the 95 theses” if he could have foreseen such developments.
Meanwhile, Welt columnist Harald Martenstein mockingly wrote that the church was “building bridges to Islam through polygamy” and might next endorse “marriages between people and their pets.”
Müller has stood by her actions, saying her guiding principle is that “if people make their decisions on equal terms, autonomously and consensually, then I don’t consider it my job as a pastor to tell people what to do in their bedroom.”
It comes as a 68-year-old former pastor from Ohio is also drawing attention for his openly polygamous household.
Thom Miller, who has two “sister wives” and 23 children and stepchildren, said he is open to finding a third wife.
Miller “married” his second wife, Reba, when she was 19 and 40 years his junior.
“He treated me like I was an adult instead of like a child and, I don’t know, it just felt right,” she told The Sun.
His first wife, Belinda, 51, said their blended family “works well,” adding: “DNA is a biological factor, but love is from the heart.

“It takes more than DNA to be a parent.”
He described his family as “normal,” saying: “We’re not crazies. We’re Christians that follow the Bible and believe that nowhere in scripture did it ever say ‘stop doing it’.”
