A FIREFIGHTER from The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) has tragically died while battling a five alarm blaze in Brooklyn – as tributes pour in.

Patrick Brady, 42, an 11-year veteran at the department, suffered a “medical episode” then a fatal heart attack after tackling the flames on the roof of 9407 Kings Highway.

Brady was treated at the scene then rushed to Brockdale hospital.

But despite medics’ best efforts, the brave firefighter died later that day.

The incident, which took place at around 9:30pm yesterday, also left four others workers and one civilian with minor injuries.

Tributes have since poured in for the “selfless” worker who “gave his life” to protecting the city.

In a statement, Mayor Eric Adams said: “Firefighter Patrick Brady gave his life protecting the city we all love; there is no sacrifice that is more selfless than the actions that took place this evening.”

He added: “This family is a firefighter family. They’ve been dedicated to protecting the lives of New Yorkers and we will all cherish Patrick’s memory”.

The 42-year-old, who is said to have come from a “firefighting family”, was also remembered for his dedication to his work.

Paying tribute to the man who “had firefighting in his blood”, FDNY Commissioner Tucker said the department is “mourning this immense loss”.

In a statement, he said: “The entire FDNY is heartbroken over the loss of Firefighter Patrick Brady.

“Firefighter Brady was a dedicated public servant, and firefighting was in his blood.

“We are thinking of his family, friends, and fellow members as we join them in mourning this immense loss,”

Devastating pictures show Brady’s colleagues carrying his body on a stretcher as others gather around, holding a salute.

The fallen firefighter is draped in a American flag – a symbolic tribute to his long career serving his country.

Reports suggest some 250 firefighters gathered outside Brockdale Hospital in the early hours of this morning to honour their colleague.

The process, called a “dignified transfer”, is a tradition where colleagues pay respect to the remains of a service member.

The 42-year-old started his career with the FDNY in July 2014, serving initially with Engine 227 in Brooklyn before transferring to Ladder 120 in 2022.

Brady leaves behind his wife, Kara, and his two brothers, Jimmy and Brian, who are both FDNY firefighters.
