Humiliated and seeing a huge wedge of his country handed over to Putin, Zelensky resigns.

He calls an election in Ukraine – with ongoing fears Russia’s manipulative tendrils will help install a pro-Kremlin leader.

This is like the Budapest Memorandum 2.0 – a hollow treaty, echoing the one signed back in 1994.

Russia holds its biggest military parade in years on the anniversary of the end of World War 2.

Putin stands victorious in Red Square – flanked by his international allies such as China’s Xi Jinping and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un.

The world now faces an uneasy peace.

Putin and China quietly ready for war in the face of an impotent and dilly-dallying Europe.

Defence spending slides as nations begin to turn inwards amid domestic crises.

The Nato alliance begins to crack – with some EU nations beginning to take a Hungarian approach to Russia by becoming more sympathetic to Putin.

Vlad’s shadow grows over Europe – and even extends to the Middle East where he helps rebuild Iran and their proxy forces such as the Houthis.

Soon, global trade is being strangled once again by attacks in the Red Sea.

5pm: As the newly elected US president is inaugurated – with the baton being handed back to the Democrats in an America as polarised as ever – the world’s eyes are on Capitol Hill.

But in the Kremlin – Putin is about to unleash hell.

5.15pm: Ukrainian border guards hear a rumbling and suddenly Russian tanks emblazoned with a white letter ‘Z’ emerge from the murk.

5.20pm: Missiles and airstrikes rain down across Ukraine – with screaming civilians running for cover.

5.30pm: Some 300,000 Russian soldiers and international mercenaries begin to pour over the border.

And they won’t make the same mistakes again they made in February 2022.

9pm: Putin declares the “final reunification” of Russian lands in a late night address while a rudderless Nato scrambles in emergency talks.

9.10pm: Rutte fails to convince the pact to invoke Article 5 or commit boots on the ground – with many still fearing a direct confrontation with Russia.

10pm: The new weak Democrat president addresses the US – but balks at the prospect of being dragged into war on day one of his term.

3am: Xi gives the order – and Chinese troops quietly seize the Kinmen Islands from Taiwan.

Beijing has been shown again that aggression against non-Nato nations is a walk in the park – so the Communist Party takes their chance.

11am: Days later a leaders’ meeting is finally convened in Berlin about China’s seizure of the islands – while they still reel from the renewed war in ukraine.

11.20am: News agencies report a shouting match has erupted between world leaders behind closed doors – Sir Keir Starmer frantically attempts to bring Europe and the US together.

12pm: The leaders leave the meeting with a statement, a pledge of aid – and urging China to “de-escalate” – little is achieved, and Xi watches the West’s indecision.

February 24, 2029

8pm: The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) launches its opening salvo across the Taiwan Strait – hundreds of ballistic and cruise missiles rain down on Taiwanese air-bases.

8.15pm: China’s D-Day style invasion barges slowly cross the Taiwan Strait – packed with thousands troops who have been training for this for years.

9pm: The PLA’s Type 075 assault ships, landing barges and amphibious brigades make their move under the cover of darkness and cyber-attacks.

9.15pm Taiwan’s west coast, hundreds of assault craft surge forward, accompanied by troops parachuting down from helicopters.

5.20am: As a mushroom cloud rises over the South Korean capital, the country scrambles to respond as Pyongyang’s forces surge across the border under the cover of chaos.

8am: Aiming to seize control before allies can act, Kim’s army exploit a series tunnel networks under the border and deploy menacing naval destroyers to the peninsula’s south coast.
