THE son of an Oxford don wanted over a £2.8million “hack-to-trade” fraud faces 25 years in a US jail.

Robert Westbrook is accused of hijacking emails of bosses at five firms to view financial reports and make an illegal killing on the stock market.

US authorities say he used anonymous emails, virtual private networks and cryptocurrency to hide his identity.

Former City investor Westbrook, 39, denies the offences.

He was detained last year and held at Wandsworth jail before his parents, Prof Roy Westbrook and wife Rosemary, paid a £375,000 security for bail.

Westbrook Jnr, who has ADHD and autism, has since been under curfew at their home in Goring, Oxon.

He faces five charges of unauthorised access to a computer, which each carry maximum five-year terms, or fines of at least £187,000.

An extradition hearing before Westminister JPs was told he would be remanded at Essex County jail, New Jerseyand stay there if convicted.

His lawyer said it houses violent gangs and a “middle-class British man would be a target”.

The case was adjourned.
