MORE than 300 piles of human remains have been uncovered by a man in a shocking discovery in a desert outside of Las Vegas.
The mystery remains were discovered near the rural town of Searchlight, about an hour outside of Las Vegas on July 28.
Each pile of ashes no longer contains identifiable information, which has left investigators mystified as to who they belong to.
Back in August some of the piles contained pieces of cable ties, which funeral homes use to close bags of ashes, along with remnants of urns, reported 8 News Now.
Families could find it near impossible to distinguish their loved ones, who are believed to be people who lived in the southern Nevada community.
A funeral home took charge earlier this week to recover the mounds of remains from a desert in Nevada.
The recovery team from Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries arrived on the scene and found about 315 sets of ashes; they have since been placed in individual urns.
This comes after a Bureau of Land Management official confirmed the piles were human “cremains”, and the department was actively investigating back in August.
Authorities believe a funeral home mass dumped the ashes.
While there are no laws in Nevada that stop a person from scattering remains on private land, state law prohibits commercial littering of ashes.
Funeral homes are required preserve the “dignity” of remains in their care and a mass dumping like this one is expected to violate federal law.
Palm Mortuaries are set to place the hundreds of remains into a crypt at one of their cemeteries in southern Nevada.
The funeral home hopes this will give families the chance to find their loved ones and pay their respects.
Celena DiLullo, the president of Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries said: “I think it’s important to us to make sure that these people are not forgotten and not left.
“It’s important to our community and our profession that we demonstrate how much we do care about these people.”
“I don’t know if it was the wishes of these people to be out, so that’s kind of what goes through my mind.”
She added: “If this is not how they would want to be remembered, we would just want to have a place for them to be.”
Several sources told 8 News Now that a recently closed funeral was responsible for the mass dumping.
A representative from the unnamed business has since denied these claims.
Details of the funeral home suspected are yet to be released by authorities.
Elsewhere in Ireland archaeologists discovered five sets of skeletal human remains earlier this month.

The mass grave was uncovered at the site of a former mother-and-baby institution at Tuam in County Galway.
Excavators found shoes, spectacles and baby glass bottles from the years it was operating -1841 to 1918.
