The horror discovery occurred around midday yesterday.

A group of labourers raised the alarm after spotting the man’s body hidden in bushes as they worked in the area.

Local reports say he was lying lifeless on his back and had no clothes on.

The workers called 999 and police cordoned off the area, near a stunning cove beach in the southeast of Majorca called Cala Lombards, when they arrived.

Well-placed sources said today there were no evident signs of violence on the man’s body or at the scene but they were not ruling out any possible scenario out until after the post-mortem.

The autopsy is due to take place later today at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Palma.

The Civil Guard, which is the police force investigating, confirmed today: “The dead man has been identified as a British national.

“The alarm was raised yesterday afternoon by a worker in the area around midday yesterday.

“The area in question is Cala Llombards in the municipality of Santanyi.”

The force spokesman said he wasn’t able to confirm local reports the dead man was stark naked when he was found.

He added: “It is something that the autopsy will have to confirm but we understand he was 64 years old.

Detectives haven’t yet commented on whether he was holidaying in Majorca or lives on the island, but he is believed to be a local resident.

One person living near the spot where he was found dead said he thought he had seen the man walking alone in the area before yesterday’s grim discovery.

In June, a British tourist died after a late-night fall onto rocks near a beautiful white sand Majorcan beach.

Ben Clark, 41, was killed instantly after the 15ft plunge from a wall.
The tragedy occurred at Cala Aguila, a large white sand beach surrounded by beautiful, natural landscapes in the north-east of Majorca, a short drive from Capdepera.

Friends of Ben, who described himself on Facebook as a self-employed carpenter from Andover, Hampshire, called him “one of the good ones” and a “great guy” as they spoke of their shock at learning the news, with one admitting he was “completely gutted.”

On May 19, a British woman died after plunging from a scenic beauty spot in Majorca.

The 39-year-old was rushed to hospital critically injured following the drama but failed to overcome her injuries.

She fell about 60 feet from a lookout point in the Palma neighbourhood of es Jonquet overlooking the sea.
