Speaking to Sky NewsBrueckner also pleaded for the “witch hunt” against him to stop.

He earlier travelled hours to reach the prosecutor’s office in the German town of Braunschweig – but was booted out and denied a meeting with Hans Christian Wolters.

Wolters has long insisted the convicted rapist is responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance and killing.

Brueckner told the broadcaster Wolters “couldn’t be bothered to speak to me,” but insisted he wants “his help to get my life back”.

He moaned: “I’m being hounded by the media, and it’s his fault. I want him to take responsibility.

“I was told there was nothing they could do to help. I had been convicted and released, and I wasn’t their responsibility.”

Brueckner was released from jail earlier this month after serving a seven-year sentence for the rape of an elderly woman.

German prosecutors named him in 2020 as the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine – and had hoped to find more evidence to pin the case on him.

After being released, he was homed in a ground-floor apartment but then had to be moved after his address was leaked.

He was moved to a smart, inner-city hotel — the location of which has not been revealed in line with the country’s strict privacy laws.

A smirking Brueckner, 48, was marched out of the grim flat by police, who became fearful for his safety when residents in the German town found out he was living there.

In an interview with Germany’s Stern magazine, Brueckner’s lawyer Dr Fulscher previously said: “The Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office has fuelled this media campaign of prejudgement.

“It has told the public that it is certain it has the right person. Without presenting sufficient evidence or even allowing my client to inspect the files.

“I find this highly questionable from a constitutional point of view. In my opinion, the Braunschweig public prosecutor’s office has made rehabilitation impossible.”

Criminal past

Brueckner was jailed for raping a 72-year-old American woman in 2005 in Praia da Luz — the resort from which three-year-old Madeleine disappeared two years later.

He should have stayed locked up for another four months — but a former German FBI officer who had previously investigated him settled outstanding court fines over fears his human rights were being infringed.

However Wolters previously said: “In prison, he has not undergone any therapy. We therefore estimate that the risk of re-offending is high.

“This worries us. At the time of Madeleine’s disappearance in 2007, Bruckner was driving in the south of Portugal on board his motorhome.

“When the girl vanishes, his cell phone rings in the area.

“In five years of investigation, we have not found anything that can vindicate him.

“No alibi. On the contrary, we have accumulated incriminating evidence.

“To us, it is obvious that it is him. There are no other suspects, and there never have been.

“But without sufficient evidence, we cannot prevent the main suspect from being released.”

How we revealed probe on evil perv

THE Sun has led the way in covering the prime suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

In June 2020, German investigators named him as Christian B, and revealed their belief she was dead.

A month later we revealed fears over Brueckner’s allotment house with a cellar he was building.

That September The Sun tracked key witness Helge B down in Corsica, who claimed the sex offender told him: “She didn’t scream.”

In October 2022, The Sun revealed how Brueckner had been charged with a sex assault on a girl of ten near Praia da Luz days before Madeleine vanished.

In September 2024 The Sun printed claims Brueckner told an ex-cell mate he had taken a child in Portugal and begged him to burn his lair.

This May, The Sun revealed evidence against Brueckner unearthed from police files after an investigation into him — including child abuse messages.

The Sun revealed in June Brueckner bragged that cops would never pin the case on him.

Last week we revealed a cop investigating Brueckner paid for his early release because she feared for his human rights.
