The pair were out in Sri Lanka for the 34th birthday of the Brit’s daughter.

On October 25, they decided to go for a challenging hike up Ella Rock which often takes four hours to complete.

Once they reached the mountaintop, the dad is said to have suddenly collapsed, according to cops.

He was rushed to the nearby Bandarawela Hospital but couldn’t be revived.

An autopsy showed he suffered a heart attack.

The pair had only arrived in Sri Lanka on October 16.

They had spent the birthday trip exploring the coastal town of Weligama before heading to Ella Rock.

Ella Rock consists of a mixture of steep slopes, rocky terrain and lush rice fields which hikers have to defeat before enjoying the highest point in the town of Ella.

It is believed to be over 3,700ft tall and has an elevation gain of around 1,550ft.

The Sun has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.

It comes as an 80-year-old tourist died on a remote island after a cruise left without her following a hike.

Suzanne Rees, 80, was on the first stop of a 60-day cruise trip around Australia when she got separated from the group and tragically died.

Katherine Rees said her mum fell ill during the organised climb on Lizard Island, near the Great Barrier Reef, and was asked to clamber back down the mountain on her own.

“Then the ship left, apparently without doing a passenger count. At some stage in that sequence, or shortly after, Mum died, alone,” she told The Australian.

Katherine said her family were left “shocked and saddened” at the series of events that led to their beloved mum and grandma dying.
