Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko today welcomed the sanctions against Russian oil companies Lukoil and Rosneft, announced on Thursday by the United States.

Sviridenko said that Russian oil fuels the war provoked by Moscow and stressed that the United States sent the right message by sanctioning the two companies.

The Ukrainian Prime Minister disseminated the comments via social media after the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, announced the sanctions, the first imposed by the current Donald Trump Administration against Russia.

Rosneft is a Russian state-owned company that produces almost 6% of the world’s crude oil and almost half of Russian crude oil.

Together with Lukoil, they export 3.1 million barrels of crude per day.

Both companies were already sanctioned by the previous United States Administration, but this time the sanctions are extended to subsidiaries and affiliates.
