FC Porto dismantled one of the largest ticket resale networks ever discovered in football. According to the English newspaper The Guardian, the club led by André Villas-Boas will have recovered dozens of season seats at Estádio do Dragão that were earning thousands of euros per game for those who used them.
According to the publication, which cites a source from the Dragons, an individual used data from dozens of people to turn them into members of the club and thus be able to buy period seats, which he then resold at inflated prices. Some reached 800 euros. THE The Guardian he even mentions a Danish couple, who claim to have bought two tickets for 200 euros each, for the game on the first day of the I League, against Vit. Guimaraes.
“These schemes have reached an impressive scale, with dozens of places being controlled by a single individual. We have also identified companies processing hundreds of transactions, serving as a front for this illegal activity”, confirmed FC Porto, in a statement to the British newspaper.
The case was handed over to the police and is still being investigated, and it is not possible to assess how many seats or the amount of damage caused to the Porto club with this alleged criminal scheme.
