“Today, October 17th, during the fifth stage of the Morocco Rally, which covers a circuit around Erfoud, motorcyclist Jorge Brandão, who was participating in the race for the second time, suffered a fall in the dunes at kilometer 214”, says the organization’s statement cited by EFE.
The pilot was immediately assisted by a medical team who transported him by helicopter to Erfoud hospital, where he died. “He was quickly attended to by doctors in a medical helicopter, who transported him to Erfoud hospital, where he died at 1:55 pm. The Morocco Rally extends its deepest condolences to his family and loved ones”, adds the note.
A businessman born in Arouca, Jorge Brandão was a well-known name in national Enduro. Last year, he participated in the Morocco Rally as co-driver with Spaniard Carlos Vento, but both withdrew in the second stage after the Spaniard’s health problems.
This time, Brandão competed with the aim of gaining experience to participate solo in the 2026 Dakar. He was ranked 48th overall and second among veterans at the start of the last stage, when, with two kilometers to go, he suffered an accident that ended up being fatal.
