O rapper American Kendrick Lamar leads the nominations for the 68th edition of the Grammys, the North American music awards, with nine nominations in categories such as Recording of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year.

According to information available since this Friday, November 7th, on the official website of the awards, in addition to the nominations for Record of the Year (with “luther”, duet with Sza), Song of the Year (“luther”) and Album of the Year (“GNX”), the name of the Compton rapper also appears in the categories of Best Rap Song (“tv off”), Best Rap Album (“GNX”), Best Melodic Rap Performance (“luther”), Best Performance by Duo/Group (“30 for 30”, with Sza), Best Rap Performance (“tv off”, with Lefty Gunplay, and “Chains & Whips”, a song he recorded with Clipse, Pusha T and Malice).

“GNX” is the rapper’s fifth consecutive studio album nominated for Album of the Year, a feat never before achieved by any artist. If he wins, it will be Kendrick Lamar’s first Grammy in this category and only the third rap album in Grammy history to win Album of the Year, after Lauryn Hill’s “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” in 1999 and Outkast’s “Speakerboxxx/The Love Below” in 2004.

“GNX”, released in November last year, served as the theme for Kendrick Lamar’s joint tour with Sza, “The Last Tour”, which included a date in Portugal, on July 27th, at Estádio do Restelo, in Lisbon.

Before this concert, the rapper had only performed in Portugal as part of festivals: in 2014 and 2023, at Primavera Sound, in Porto, and in 2016, at Super Bock Super Rock, in Lisbon.
