Portuguese internationals Nuno Mendes and Vitinha, defender and midfielder for Paris Saint-Germain, are part of the best eleven for the 2024/25 season of the International Federation of Professional Footballers’ Associations (FIFPro), which includes five players from the French team.
The unprecedented victory of the Champions League, to which it joined the French League and the French Cup, allowed PSG to monopolize the FIFPro nominees: in addition to the Portuguese left-back and midfielder, the Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma (who transferred to Manchester City), the Moroccan defender Achraf Hakimi and the French forward Ousmane Dembélé were nominated.
Dutch defender Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), English midfielders Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid) and Cole Palmer (Chelsea) and Spanish Pedri (FC Barcelona) and French forwards Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid) and Spanish Lamine Yamal (FC Barcelona) complete last season’s best eleven.
At 18 years old, Yamal became the youngest player to be selected, surpassing the record set by Mbappé in 2018, when he was chosen at 19 years old, and receiving the first distinction from the footballers’ representative body, just like Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, Pedri, Palmer, Dembélé.
Portuguese midfielder João Neves, one of the most outstanding members of the Parisian team (which also includes compatriot Gonçalo Ramos), was also named, but was not part of the best ‘eleven’, based on performances between July 15, 2024 and August 3, 2025, similar to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portuguese international, Al Nassr forward, continues to be the second player with the most appearances in the best eleven of the season, with 15, only surpassed by the 17 of Argentine striker Lionel Messi, currently at Inter Miami, who was also part of the group of finalists.
In the women’s sector, English international defender Lucy Bronze (who also has Portuguese nationality), became the first player to be part of the FIFPro’s best ‘eleven’ for the eighth time, leaving the company of Frenchwoman Wendie Renard, named on seven occasions.
